Assistant Manager, General Ledger - Utrecht area

Job Description

Our client are the innovators and leaders in their field. For their EU offices based in the Utrecht region, we are looking for an Assistant Manager General Ledger with great Excel skills. In this position you will be working extensively with the German office and will be expected to travel to the German office regularly in the first year.

Main tasks

  • Implement accounting policies and working procedure for GL Accounting for all activities/processes and ensure that they are aligned with internal and external requirements
  • Responsible for the month-end and financial year-end closings, focusing on reviewing journal entries prepared by staff for accurateness and completeness and adequate backup. The role will include working closely together with other departments (for example Marketing, HR, Legal, etc.) in order to prepare accurate and complete journal entries to record business
  • Prepares monthly account reconciliations and analytical review and assists accounting staff to prepare account reconciliations and review these reconciliations
  • Should understand the problem identification and problem solving process. Coordinate with accounting staff and various other departments to ensure financial records are accurate and complete
  • Participate in and prepare information requests for internal and external audits
  • Supervise 3 to 4 staff accountants, including goal setting, performance assessment and ongoing training and development
  • May be required to perform ah-hoc duties as assigned by manager


  • Master degree in Accounting or country equivalent education
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience
  • Fluent in English (verbal & written), German is a pre
  • People Soft experience is a plus
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Clear and effective communications skills
  • Proactive, well organized and ability to work with deadlines
  • Ability to understand and implement processes
  • Flexible and open to new ideas
  • Team player with service-oriented attitude

Note : Extensive travel to the Germany office will be required in the first year. After the first year the travel might be reduced to once a month.
