Senior OLE (Overhead Line Equipment) Design Engineer (Rail)

Overview

The Senior OLE Design Engineer will be taking a leading role in the development of the Overhead Line Engineering Design Team and report to the Head of Electrification & Plant. They will be taking the lead in Overhead Line design, allocation layout design, bonding design and cross sections of OLE structures and helping to develop Interfleet’s growing reputation.



The Opportunity

The opportunity is for a an experienced OLE Design engineer to join a department that is new, growing, employs some of the most recognised individuals within rail infrastructure and enjoys major backing from one of the world’s largest Infrastructure organisations.
The department is set to grow from 5 to 12-15 over the next 2 years and provides genuine opportunity for career progression and professional development. Interfleet are looking to invest in their staff, make them more valuable and this inevitably means exposure to some of the biggest projects in the industry and pushing for professional qualifications and professional recognition.
Interfleet operate out of modern facilities based next door to Derby train station which houses around 250 of Interfleet’s consultants. They operate a flexible working scheme that recognises good work and rewards accordingly via ex gratia award systems.
The OLE team is relatively new but has already won some major contracts including the re-design of over 50 miles of track and are also well positioned for the midland mainline development.
The Senior OLE Design Engineer sits within the Electrification and Plant (E&P) team which is a part of Interfleet’s Infrastructure division. Interfleet are owned by their parent company, SNC Lavilin, an international engineering business with over 30,000 staff worldwide who are developing new business opportunities for Interfleet on an international basis.



Job responsibilities

·         Conceptual and outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options ·         Preparation, checking and/or approval of feasibility studies, technical reports and other written documents ·         Design, checking and approval of the assessment on the OLE of horizontal and vertical track alignment schemes ·         Structure gauging ·         Production and approval of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents ·         Management of teams of engineers and external suppliers ·         Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification ·         Training and development, mentoring of junior staff ·         Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances ·         Client and third party liaison ·         Supervising and checking the work of junior staff ·         Training, development and management of junior staff ·         Undertaking the role of Task Manager, Designer or Checker as required in the design processes



Person Profile

Hard Skills
 
Essential
Desirable
6 years experience in Overhead Line design
allocation layout design, bonding design and cross sections of OLE structures
BEng or 10 years+ equivalent experience in OLE or HNC/HND in related Engineering subject
CEng or IEng Professional qualification
Familiarity with railway standards is essential
Construction experience
Experience with working on GRIP 3, 4 and 5 design projects
 
Soft Skills

Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others
Ability to communicate at a variety of levels
 
 
The candidate will have a minimum of 6 years experience in Overhead Line design. They will be qualified to a minimum HND standard although they will preferably be BEng with CEng or IET status. They will have a solid understanding of railway standards and have experience of working within GRIP 3,4 and 5 design project. It is highly likely this person will have experience of layout design, bonding design and cross sections of OLE structures.
 
The candidate will be able to demonstrate projects that they have delivered on time and exceeding customer satisfaction. They will have a positive reputation for their skill set within the industry and be comfortable liaising with all levels of staff.
